We visited this temple the evening we arrived in Luxor (formerly Thebes, and before that, Waset). This is one of multiple impressive temples in the Luxor area - this one is right in the city, and evening was the perfect time to visit.

Speaking of evening views, this was the view across the Nile from our Luxor hotel of the mountains near the Valley of the Kings. The mountains were illuminated like this each evening we were there.

Fishermen on the Nile check their nets.

A woman and her child in a small village we visited near the Nile. We got to this village via a camel ride.

The 4,000-year old Karnak Temple Complex is not far from Luxor. If it looks familiar, it may be because you have seen one of the movies that were filmed here, such as The Spy who Loved Me and Death on the Nile.

When Lake Nasser was created by the construction of the High Dam on the Nile at Aswan, there was one big problem - it would flood this temple built into the side of a mountain. So to save this amazing archeological site, it was dis-assembled and moved to a higher location and re-built into the side of another mountain. It is now safely well above the lake.

Of course no trip to Egypt would be complete without a visit to the Sphinx and the Pyramids at Giza, just west of Cairo. Like many other archeological sites, the Great Pyramid was brightly illuminated at night.
