A White Christmas for Edwardsville and the St. Louis Area

A Christmas Eve storm, which generally dropped 3-4 inches of snow in the immediate St. Louis area, gave the area a white Christmas. This was the first official white Christmas (1 inch or more on the ground) in five years, although it was the second consecutive Christmas that was at least somewhat snowy, since snow showers the morning of Christmas, 2009 gave the area spotty 1/2 inch accumulations.

Here are a couple pictures of Dunlap Lake in Edwardsville. Note that the sustained cold weather over the previous couple weeks made the ice on the lake solid enough for skating and hockey.

A storm summary from the St. Louis National Weather Service with radar images and a snowfall map can be found here.
