2026 Severe Weather Season

Observations of Severe Storms and Interesting Weather Phenomena in 2026

June 26 - Severe Storm in Northwest New Mexico - In an area where SPC was not highlighting any severe, but the HRRR was showing strong severe weather paramaters in a localized area, I headed out to the Aztec/Bloomfield area in northwest NM and caught a severe and photogenic storm. Lots of pictures included in this report.

May 28 - Wind, Hail, and a Rainbow in Santa Fe, NM - An unexpectedly strong storm produces near-severe wind and hail in the Santa Fe metropolitan area, along with a nice rainbow. Includes video of the rainbow and hail and a double-rainbow photo.

May 21 - Gustnadoes, Microbursts, Hail, Lightning, and a Big Dusty Vortex - A trip to southeast Colorado (and eventually into the western Oklahoma Panhandle) yields a number of interesting features. One was a vortex reported as a landspout tornado near Pritchett, CO by a National Weather Service employee - but the vortex may actually have been a large gustnado. I also got pictures and video around Springfield, CO of other features that were definitely gustnadoes, of strong, dusty microbursts, and eventually of hail and an intense barrage of lightning in Boise City, OK
