2015 Severe Weather Season

Observations of Severe Storms and Interesting Weather Phenomena

May 19, Funnel Cloud near Cortez, CO - Though not actively seeking interesting weather, my wife and I have a chance with a funnel cloud and other interesting weather in southwest Colorado. Includes photos.

June 7, Eastern New Mexico Storms - I play catch-up with a line of strong storms that produces hail and torrential rain over a wide area of eastern NM and the TX and OK Panhandles. Tough chase, though I do eventually get some nice storm structure and a decent rainbow.

June 8, Eastern New Mexico Supercells - I observe two spectacular supercells. The first was SVR-warned for nearly 4 hours as it produced deep hail accumulations near Wagon Mound and spectacular lowerings associated with microbursts west and southwest of Roy. The second, though not severe, was one of the most photogenic storms I have seen. Includes numerous pictures, video, and radar image.

Last Week of June, near Pagosa Springs, CO - A monsoon-like pattern develops that last week of June, affording several storm photography opportunities in the Pagosa Springs area. Includes photos and discussion from June 27, 29, and 30.

July 1, Hail and Lightning Northwest of Pagosa Springs, CO - On a local chase less than 20 miles from home, I encounter a burst of hail and a dramatic display of lightning in and near the San Juan Mountains. Includes lightning photos and a short video of the hail.

August 16, Southern Colorado Storms - I photograph lightning near Pagosa Springs, dust swirls under storms in the San Luis Valley, and a double rainbow near Pueblo as I work my way east across southern Colorado to position myself for a storm chase the next day.

August 18, Eastern Colorado Storms - I encounter multiple supercells, high wind, hail, flooding, a possible funnel cloud, and a spectacular display of sunlit mammatus as I work my way south from the Limon area to SE of La Junta, CO. Includes lots of photos and discussion of the severe weather setup.

September 5, Strong Storms and a Funnel Cloud in Archuleta County, CO - I intercept a strong storm near Chromo, CO and am rewarded with a close-up view of a funnel cloud. Then later, I head out to intercept another intense storm as it moves into the Pagosa Springs area. Includes photos, video, and discussion of the day's weather setup.

October 6, Strong Storms near Albuquerque and Santa Fe - The storms kind of came to me today, giving me a chance to view strong and photogenic storms near Albuquerque and Santa Fe, NM. Includes several photos.

October 7, Strong Storms in Southeastern and East-Central New Mexico - Strong storms, including supercells, produce wind, hail, and considerable flash flooding in and near Clovis and Portales, NM. I get on the storms NE of Roswell and follow them to Clovis. Includes photos and discussion of the day's weather setup.
